    Please read the following Privacy Policy carefully before using the www.piikanicfs.ca website or the Piikani PAITAPIIYSSIN mobile app (together, the “Sites”) operated by Piikani Child and Family Services ("PCFS”).

    Definitions
    A “Cookie” is a small text file that is placed on your device when you visit a website. Cookies can be used to enhance browsing experience and to help owners improve visitor services.
    • “Analytics Cookies” enable the collection of anonymous statistical information about how visitors use the websites in order to help owners improve the sites and visitors’ browsing experience. Analytics Cookies collect data such as browser type, screen size, traffic patterns, and pages visited.
    • “Essential Cookies” are necessary for the websites to function properly and enable basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the sites.
    “Information” includes but is not limited to the following:
    • “Non-Personal Details” includes information about visitor interactions with websites, including Uniform Resource Locators (URLs), clickstream to, through and from sites (including date and time), page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information and methods used to browse the Sites.
    • “Non-Personal Information” does not directly or indirectly reveal your identity or directly relate to an identifiable individual, such as demographic information or statistical or aggregated information.
    • “Personal Information” is any information about an identifiable individual, which includes information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person.
    o Personal Information can include but is not limited to name, address, email address, phone number, age, gender and financial information.
    o Personal Information does not include business contact information or personal health information.
    • “Technical Information” includes login information, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform or information about site visitor’s internet connection, the equipment used to access websites, and usage details.
    “Policy” means this Privacy Policy.

    1. Purpose
    a) This Privacy Policy describes:
    i. How PCFS collects, uses, retains, protects and discloses your Personal Information obtained through access to the Sites;
    ii. The types of Information PCFS may collect from you, or that you may provide when accessing the Sites; and
    iii. PCFS’ practices for collecting, using, retaining, protecting and disclosing your Information.

    2. Commitment
    a) PCFS is committed to providing safe Sites for visitors of all ages in compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act (“PIPA”). PCFS will only use Personal Information in accordance with this Policy unless otherwise required by law. PCFS takes steps to ensure that the Personal Information collected about visitors is adequate, relevant, not excessive, and used for limited purposes.

    3. Application
    a) This Privacy Policy is applicable to PCFS and all visitors who access the Sites. It applies to all Information that PCFS collects through use of its Sites but does not apply to Information that PCFS collects offline or through other means.
    b) Please note that there may be links from PCFS’ Sites to other websites for convenience and informational purposes. However, this Privacy Policy applies only to PCFS’ Sites and does not include any linked websites. The user is responsible for reviewing the privacy policies of any linked sites and/or making any necessary inquiries about privacy with the operator of such sites. PCFS does not endorse, and is not responsible for, these linked websites.

    4. Consent
    a) Although you are not required to register to access our Sites, you may be asked to provide PCFS with Personal Information when you visit certain sections of our Sites. Your use of PCFS’ Sites signifies your acknowledgement and consent to this Privacy Policy.
    b) If you do not agree to this Policy, please do not continue to use PCFS’ Sites. Your continued use of the Sites signifies your acceptance of this Policy and any changes in effect at the time of use.

    5. Collection of Personal Information
    a) PCFS collects Personal Information that you voluntarily provide to us through responses to surveys, search functions, questionnaires, feedback, Tell Your Story forms and other similar means.
    b) On some sections of our Sites, PCFS offers health assessment tools that ask you to provide self-assessment information. We may also ask you to provide Personal Information such as your e-mail address if you want to obtain additional services, information, participate in a contest or wish to resolve complaints or concerns.

    6. Use of Information
    a) Before providing PCFS with any type of Information, please be advised that such Information may be used for research and development relating to PCFS’ Sites and/or for future site development, and in order to send promotional materials (where the visitor has consented).
    b) PCFS may use your Information for the following purposes:
    i. To monitor interest in our range of services;
    ii. To assist us in tailoring the content of our Sites to your needs by collecting Information about your preferences through tracking of patterns page views on our Sites;
    iii. To create a profile for you in order to show you the content that might be of interest to you, and to display the content according to your preferences; and
    iv. In circumstances where you have indicated that you wish to receive additional information, to send you information about us and promotional material about our services together with details of any events we may host from time to time.
    c) PCFS shall not use Personal Information for any purpose outside the scope of this Policy.

    7. Retention of Personal Information
    a) Personal Information you share with PCFS is stored on our database servers at PCFS’ data centers or hosted by third parties who have entered into agreements with PCFS that require them to adhere to our Privacy Policy.
    b) PCFS retains Personal Information only for as long as it reasonably requires that Personal Information for business or legal purposes. PCFS may securely destroy Personal Information when the Personal Information is no longer required.

    8. Protection of Information
    a) PCFS protects Personal Information in a manner appropriate to its sensitivity and in accordance with PIPA.
    b) PCFS has put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and correctly use the Information collected via the Sites.
    c) PCFS applies security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, such as retaining information in secure facilities and making Personal Information accessible only to authorized employees on a need-to-know basis.
    d) Employees and agents of PCFS who access Personal Information in PCFS’ custody or control will be advised of this Policy and any other applicable policies and processes to ensure the security and protection of Personal Information.

    9. Disclosure of Information
    a) PCFS will not disclose Personal Information that you provide on its Sites to any third parties other than to an agent of PCFS, except:
    i. In accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy; or
    ii. In order to comply with legal requirements such as a law, regulation, warrant, subpoena or court order; and/or
    iii. If you are reporting an adverse event/side effect, in which case PCFS may be required to disclose such Information to regulatory bodies or authorities.
    b) Please note that any of these disclosures may involve the storage or processing of Personal Information outside of Canada and may therefore be subject to different privacy laws than those applicable in Canada, including laws that require the disclosure of Personal Information to governmental authorities under circumstances that are different than those that apply in Canada.

    10. Right to Access and Correction of Personal Information
    a) Under PIPA, you are entitled to:
    i. Seek access to Personal Information in records in PCFS’ control;
    ii. Ask about PCFS’ use of your Personal Information and circumstances in which it has been disclosed outside PCFS; and
    iii. Request a correction of an error or omission you believe to be in your Personal Information.
    b) An access or correction request must be made in writing and directed to PCFS at info@piikanicfs.ca

    11. Use of Cookies
    a) PCFS’ use of Cookies aligns with its commitment to your privacy and our compliance with PIPA. PCFS uses Cookies to enhance your browsing experience and to help make improvements to our services.
    b) PCFS’ uses Essential and Analytics Cookies. When you access PCFS’ Sites, you are presented with a Cookie consent banner that allows you to:
    i. Accept Cookies; or
    ii. Refuse Cookies.
    c) You can withdraw consent or change preferences at any time by adjusting your browser settings.

    12. Third Party Cookies
    a) PCFS does not use Third Party Cookies.

    13. Changes to this Policy
    a) If PCFS changes this Policy, we will post the changes on the Sites and the changes will become effective upon posting.
    b) Your continued use of PCFS’ Sites following the posting of any changes to this Policy means you accept such changes.

    14. Governing Law
    a) This Privacy Policy and PCFS’ Sites are governed by Alberta law and applicable Canadian federal laws.
